On a very windy, muddy day the athletes had a fantastic day of racing.

Jordan Waine led the charge for medals in the u17 women’s race, as she had a great start and moved away with the leaders early on in the race. She maintained her front running form to stay with the leading group until the latter part of the race where Lucy Jones (Charnwood) and Hannah Hobbs (Westbury Harriers) made their move for home. Jordan continued to push on with Laura Mullin (Charnwood) so they broke away from the rest of the pack and Jordan pushed on again to secure the bronze medal ahead of Laura. Caitlin Roper was well placed in a fantastic fifth place and they were backed up by Alex West in 40th and Megan Rowley in 41st. The team just missed out on a podium place and finished in 4th overall.

The u15 girls race was packed with the top runners in the Midlands and our girls were up for the challenge. Emma Richards was our first athlete across the line after a hard fought race with team mate Hannah Ord. Emma only moved away from Hannah in the last 300m of the race to finish 6th and Hannah finishing in 8th. Rhea Cooper is bouncing back into form after suffering for several weeks with an ankle problem to finish in 16th. Zena Challenger was 32nd and Izzy McDaid was 47th. The team packed fantastically well to finish with the same points total as Charnwood, only to lose out on count back, but a silver team medal at the Midland County Championships is a fantastic achievement.

In the u13 girls race Elsie (the rocket ) Robinson had an outstanding race to come 7th overall. What makes it all the more amazing achievement is that she has only just turned 11 years old and it is her first Midland County Championships. Etta Magill bounced back from her disappointment in the Leicestershire & Rutland Championships to finish in a fantastic 10th place. They were backed up by more great performances from Naomi Clarke-Mayers in 41st, Izzie Smith in 47th and Sammie Dyson in 49th. Again, the team only narrowly missed out on a bronze medal and had to settle for 4th place overall.

In the u13 boys race Ash Butler and Sam Wright had great races, as this was there first taste of racing at the Midland County Championship, they both finished in solid places of 57th and 64th respectively.

It was a solid race for top 10 finisher, Mikela Gilmore, who finished in 8th place in the u20 women’s race. Also in the U20 women’s race was Fiona Brown and Charlie Preston.
