Saffron fly high at National Road Relays

National Road Relays 2017

We had some fabulous results at the National Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham, which was the same course that the Midland Road Relays were held at 2 weeks ago. The majority of the athletes that competed over the course at the Midlands improved their times yesterday, which shows the progression in their winter training.

Elsie Robinson had a blinding race to lead the U13 girls team with an individual leg time of 14.14, which was the second fastest leg time of the day. She held a 4 second advantage over Aimi Weightman of Shaftesbury Harriers before handing over to Poppy Adkin on the second leg. Poppy found herself in a battle with Olivia Breen from Tonbridge in the closing stages of her leg to hand over to Flo Hagger only one second down on her in second place. Flo had an astonishing run to carve 1 minute 20 seconds off of her Midland’s time to finish extremely well in 6th place. Considering the same team finished in 4th place at the Midlands, to finish in 6th place nationally, it is a tremendous achievement.

Similarly, The U13 boys were the 7th placed team on the day. Lachlan Finch led the way finishing his leg in 7th place and he ran the joint 7th quickest leg on the day. Alex Keeble then took over the mantle and ran very well to hand over to Ash Butler on the ultimate leg.
