Ivanhoe Challenge ( Battle of Bosworth ) Race Report

Ivanhoe Challenge

On a bleak winters afternoon perched on a bitterly cold hilltop in Bosworth, Saffron surveyed the opposition observing their threats and weaknesses while drawing up a tactical master plan to outwit and outperform the best the County has to offer. We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in fields and in the mud; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air.

Which battle gear to adorn? One led with spikes whilst others opted for studs… They all drew pride in pulling on the orange tunic of Saffron before commencing battle. They knew it wouldn’t be pretty but sought comfort in knowing the training they had undergone had prepared them for the onslaught to follow.

As the battle lines were drawn and the bugle sounded the cavalry were unleashed and thundered down the hill in search of victory. The three pronged orange blur attack confused the opposition and it wasn’t long before Saffron had the upper hand while continuing to press hard as the fight moved up and out of the valley and over the plain and up into the woods.

With several of the common soldiers and onlookers falling prey to the vicious wind the orange army battled through in the final third to seek an outstanding team victory in very difficult conditions. This was not for the faint hearted but for those that fought and observed it was a sweet victory over some very well established armies.

“God bless you all. This is your victory! It is the victory of the cause of freedom in every land. In all our long history we have never seen a greater day than this. Everyone has done their best. Everyone has tried. Neither the long training sessions, nor the dangers, nor the fierce attacks of the enemy, have in any way weakened the unbending resolve of the Saffron team. God bless you all.”
