Donnington Park, the Leicestershire racing circuit, was the scene for the English National Cross Country Championships last weekend but it was not the flat racing circuit that one might’ve expected. The course was undulating and tough underfoot with thick, heavy mud in places and long tufty grass that was energy sapping!
Never the less, the athletes rose to the challenge and there were some fine results. Jordan Waine was the highest Saffron AC finisher on the day with her 22nd place in the U17 women’s race.
Emma Richards was 27th in the u15 girls team and Caitlin Roper was 56th in the U17 women’s race with Elsie Robinson 57th in the U13 girls race.
For the majority of the young athletes, it was their first ever experience of competing in the National Cross Country and with over 300 runners in the majority of each of the age groups, this was a tremendous experience for them and what they achieved was incredible.
